Whether you are checking your email, shopping on a website or just searching for information, online ads are everywhere! A new marketing landscape, the Internet offers a new and cheaper advertising space, as compared to traditional spaces like print, television, radio and outdoor advertising. It’s a revolution of sorts and small and home business owners are making the most of it.

For a home based start up, online advertising is a potent tool that can maximize visibility, drive traffic to the company’s website, up the sales and build a solid brand in the process. Just remember the twin mantras of focus on what you want and a strong dose of imagination; and you’ll be on your way. Online advertising must also follow some basic rules. Know what you want your advertising to do, where to get it and what to do with it once you have it.

1. Define your advertising objective: Think why you need to advertise. Clearly define the goals you want your advertising program to achieve. Is it generating new leads, increasing the number of hits on your website, making your company visible in the market place or to increase on/off -line sales? Each goal will have a different advertising path. You can only expect your program to maximize returns, if you know for sure what you want your advertising to do.

2. Tailor the message for your target audience: Craft your message to appeal to the target audience. Your message for a visitor on a trade forum’s website would be different from what you say to the guy clicking on your ad on a home business site. The trick here is to align your message to the mindset of your audience. Equally important is that the message should convey the promotional goals your advertising desires to accomplish. So if you are selling ice to an Eskimo shopping in an Internet mall, don’t forget to mention the discount on your season sale!

3. Be Creative: Your most valuable asset in this crowd is your creativity, which will make your ad stand out. Be creative not only in the copy, but also in the placement of the advertisement. An online contact lens clinic pulls hundreds of people every day to take an eye test with a simple ad. The small 1″ X 2″ banner says, ” Think You Don’t Need an Eye Test?” in the same format as you see on the reading sheet in an optometrist’s clinic, with alphabets running vertically in a decreasing order. Add depth to your advertisement by using rich media like HTML, DHTML, Java and layered ads. Use animated messages doubled with pull down menus for better use of space and for expanding possibilities of response.

4. Choose the advertising medium well: Your ads should do more than just wiggle and pop. To maximize response, choose the advertising medium carefully. You have several choices like banner ads, contextual advertising, ezine advertising etc. Research and read on various formats and the factors for each one’s success. Choose the vendor. If you have decided on banner advertising, research and list the websites that would give you the maximum exposure to the right kind of audience. Check out the option of using advertising networks and the pay-per-click options as well. Once your campaign has been set in motion, take care to monitor response and be ready to change or completely redo your copy and the advertising vehicles you use. Keep a track of the ROI (Return on Investment) for every advertising purchase that you make. This way you can figure out which forms of advertising are working for you and which ones aren’t.

Making a warm and waterproof coat for your dog is quite simple, and means that you and your pooch can get more exercise over winter.

Suitable Fabrics & Notions

For the fabric, you want 2 layers. An outer layer of waterproof fabric (or fabric that can be made waterproof), and a warm layer for next to their fur.

Suitable fabrics for the outer layer include Gore-Tex, nylon and waterproof canvas. For the inner layer consider lambswool, synthetic lambswool, or polar fleece. The amount of fabric you require will depend on the size of your dog (see next section to calculate the amount of fabric required).

We’ll also need some Velcro to fasten the coat at the neck and stomach. Try to get some Velcro at least 2″ wide (or 5cm). This coat needs 2 x 4″ pieces (or 2 x 10cm pieces) of Velcro. If you have a tiny dog, 4″ is probably overkill – use your discretion.

The final item we need is heavy duty cotton webbing (this folds over the inner and outer layers and is stitched in place). Again the amount required depends on the size of your dog.

How Much Fabric to Buy

We need 3 measurements from your dog. First measure the LENGTH of your dog from the base of his neck (about where the collar sits) to just past his tail (we want the coat to extend a little past the tail).

Next, measure the WIDTH by measuring from half way between your dog’s knee and hip, up over the rump, to the same spot on the other side.

Now we need to measure the NECK allowance so measure from mid shoulder to mid shoulder, allowing the measuring tape to droop a little as if it were a fastener on a dog coat.

The amount of fabric you need to buy is the LENGTH plus half of the NECK measurement by the WIDTH, so if your dog’s LENGTH is 22.5″ and WIDTH is 23.5″ and NECK is 16″, you need to get inner and outer fabric that measures 30.5″ by 23.5″.

The amount of webbing you need is LENGTH x 2 plus WIDTH x 2 plus NECK x 4 . So for my dog above I will need 45″ plus 47″ plus 64″, a total of 156″ or 13′.

(Special Note: - the extra webbing allowance Neck x 4 is for the strap which goes underneath the coat at your dog’s waist. A double neck allowance will cover most dogs, however if your dog or dog breed is particularly thick around the middle, you may need additional fabric and webbing).

To Make Your Pattern

Now draw out your pattern.

Place both pieces of fabric with right sides together, the waterproof fabric on top (facing you). First, draw a square which is your WIDTH on one side, and LENGTH plus ½ NECK on the other side. (See this diagram here www.sewing4dummies.com/dogcoat.html). You may want to quickly pin inside this line to hold both pieces of fabric together.

Now mark off the spot where your LENGTH measurement is, exactly half way across the WIDTH (see diagram above).

Using tailors chalk, round off each of your edges, and draw out the scoop for your dog’s neck. The width for the two top pieces which go around your dog’s neck should be at least 2.5″ (for the Velcro fasteners), but can be wider if you have a larger dog.

Pin and cut.

Now, using the spare piece left over from the neck scoop, draw another rectangle at least 2.5″ wide (for the Velcro fasteners), but can be wider if you have a larger dog, and the NECK measurement long. This is for the fastener which goes around your dog’s waist.

To Make Up

Before you start sewing, it is a good idea to check the coat on the dog. Just place one of the pieces on your dog to see whether the neck allowance is enough or too much – check the amount of overlap for fastening at the neck. Also check that the waist fastener, when attached, will fit around your dog.

Also, depending on the fabric you use, you may need to swap over your sewing machine needle for a more sturdy one, as these fabrics can be quite hard to penetrate. Test on a scrap piece of fabric first.

Now we’re ready to sew. Turn the dog coat pieces around so that they are right side out. Starting on one of the sides, pin the cotton webbing around the entire outer edge of the dog coat, being sure that it is evenly spaced. Stitch in place.

Do the same with the waist closure piece. Now stitch the waist closure piece onto the dog coat at a point that is comfortable for your dog.

We now need to attach the Velcro pieces on the neck, waist closure and side. Remember that one piece needs to be stitched on the outside, and one on the inside to ensure proper closure. Pop the coat on your dog to check the best place to put your Velcro.

Stitch in place, and that’s it.

Feature wise the Nokia N95 8GB doesn’t differ a lot from the widely applauded Nokia N95. The key feature in the Nokia N95 8GB is its massive 8GB phone memory. With such an audacious memory capacity, the Nokia N95 8GB should be everyone’s-eye catcher.

The Nokia N95 8GB is not a mere mobile handset. To be true, it works like a mini computer. Retaining the same display panel as its predecessor, the Nokia N95 8GB carries a 2.8 inch 16 million colour TFT screen with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. While the Nokia N95 weighs 120 grams, the new version has got a weight of 129 grams. Measurement is exactly the same with 99 x 53 x 21 mm.

The highlight of the Nokia N95 8GB is its built-in 5 megapixel camera with features like autofocus, flash and digital zoom. The phone is equipped with camera key and highly impressive Carl Zeiss Optics Tessar lens, so there shouldn’t be any confusion regarding its results. Different scene settings (Automatic, User Defined, Close Up, Portrait, Landscape and Night), white balance (Automatic, Sunny, Cloudy, Incandescent and Fluorescent), and colour tones (Normal, Black & White, Sepia and Negative) make the phone a perfect imaging device.

Coming to its music features, the phone incorporates a dedicated music player, a stereo FM radio and a visual radio. The supplied stereo headset works superbly offering awesome sound effect. Connectivity features are many - credit goes to connectivity pools like 3G, Bluetooth, USB 2.0, Pop Port, EDGE, HSCSD and WLAN Wi-Fi. The phone works on Quad Band network and is powered by S60 software. Users can enjoy web access at their fingertips with features like WAP, HTML and XHTML. The Nokia N95 8GB also features functions like video calling, video streaming, GPS navigation (100 countries maps), email with attachments, voice commands, voice dialling, voice recording, handsfree speakerphone etc.

I keep getting this popup, despite having popup blockers on and active in my web browsers, both IE and Firefox. "You can chat with friends on Windows Live™ Messenger right from your Yahoo! Mail. Click Add Contacts to scan your addresses and invite these friends to chat." It comes up on every screen in Yahoo Mail. How do I make it stop??

Immediately have your computer checked for a ‘bug’ or ‘bugs,’ in case you picked up adware or malware.
Once it is clean of pests, install a firewall and an anti-virus program if you do not have one yet.
I strongly recommend a program for malware and adware also.
After you finish this, then go in and change your password, using a good strong one.
Then open your Internet Explorer, and click on ‘Tools.’
Click on the last one in pop-up menu, ‘Internet options.’
Click on the ‘Privacy’ tab. The last item in the window is the pop-up blocker, make sure it is checked. Then click on the ‘apply’ button at the bottom, then click on the ‘ok’ button.
Also, check your Firefox browser.

Business solutions from Nokia has a huge following. The immense popularity enjoyed by E series – a dedicated mobile phone line up of business centric phones – bears testimony to it. When Nokia announced a smart business phone with a full qwerty keypad, its success was but obvious. The Nokia E61 – a premium business mobile phone – sports the PDA looks and functionalities with trademark user-friendliness of Nokia mobile phones.

The Nokia E61 fits comfortably in the palm and is easy to operate. The hand held is fitted with a 2.8 inch larger TFT screen that can produce 16 million colours. A five way navigation key and a QWERTY keyboard makes the rest of this handset. At 144 gram, the phone might seem a bit heavy against lightweight phones of today, but one has to consider the amount of firepower the Nokia E61 carries.	The Nokia E61 is nothing less than your computer. This S60 platform based, Symbian OS v9.1 operated smartphone houses a lot of features to aid you not only in business, but anywhere you’d want it to. The handset’s evolved email client is as good as any other reputed email device and supports POP, SMTP and IMAP(with idle). Among other email clients, Visto email technology and Blackberry Connect are noteworthy.

The Nokia E61 is designed for optimized mobile internet usage. Other than ‘regular’ internet connectivity technologies like GPRS and EDGE, the Nokia E61 features 3G wherein you can achieve download speed as high as 384 kbps. Built in web browser is compatible with WAP 2.0/xHTML and HTML web pages. Presence of Instant Messenger clients like Yahoo!, AOL and OMA adds more variety to mobile internet usage on the Nokia E61. The phone also supports WiFi for advanced internet usage like VoIP calls over WLAN so that you can take advantage of technology to make long distance calls at ridiculously low price.
